Omega-3 fatty acids are an essential food component needed by the body to function properly, especially EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docohexaenoic acid). Deficiency causes a number of pathological changes and health ailments. The most valuable sources of omega-3 are oily fish such as salmon, sardines, anchovies, herring, and mackerel. If the diet lacks fish, it is necessary to supplement these fats, because, for example, linseed oil, which is also a source of omega-3, must be converted in the body by a number of mechanisms, which are not entirely effective.

Quality of omega-3 products

When choosing a product with omega-3 acids, there are several things to consider. The product label should state the omega-3 concentration and the amount of EPA and DHA per serving. The source is also important. Smaller fish are a better choice, as larger and older fish tend to accumulate heavy metals. In addition, during oil extraction there is a risk of oxidation, as indicated by the TOTOX indicator. It should not exceed 26, the lower the better.

TASA Omega TM

TASA is a Peruvian fishing company that has been on the market for many years. It is one of the largest producers of, among others, fish oil in the world. Omega-3 is obtained from Peruvian anchovies (Engraulis Ringens), which are young fish, so they have not yet had time to accumulate pollutants from the environment. They offer various concentrations of EPA and DHA as a concentrated source of omega-3. This manufacturer ensures a sustainable process of the entire development of the fishing industry, which is confirmed by certificates. TASA has a complete supply chain and control from sea fishing to customer use. Monograph GOED (Global Organization for Omega-3 EPA and DHA), of which TASA is a member, provides guidelines on various quality indicators that fish oil producers should follow. This applies to environmental pollution, e.g. dioxins, as well as, among others, permitted amounts of heavy metals or the oxidation index.

Certificates held by TASA Omega TM

TASA maintains the highest GMP quality, i.e. Good Manufacturing Practice. It complies with FDA regulations – Food and Drug Administration, determining the quality and safety of the product. As already mentioned, this company is a member of GOED (Global Organization for Omega-3 EPA and DHA). In addition, it is a so-called friend of the sea, as it has the FOS certificate (Product Certification of Sustainable Fishing and Aquaculture), which helps protect the marine environment and ensure sustainable fishing. Excessive production of omega-3 even threatens the extinction of fish, which is why limits on fish extraction per season have been created. In the case of Peru, thea so-called a so-called industrial quota for anchovy was set at less than 35% of its total biomass. This means the rest can develop in peace. Another confirmation of quality is MarinTrust, which also takes care of ensuring high safety and quality standards, with care for the environment. The last issue is safe international trade, which is the responsibility of Business Alliance for Secure Commerce (BASC).
